Oakley --is a very compact, muscular, 9-10 month 40 lb Carolina Dog mix, possibly with some lab given the floppiness of her ears. --is highly energetic and excitable. She needs ample exercise and mental stimulation --is a happy well adjusted dog --loved being petted and loved playing with all other dogs. When she arrived she looked out the window of our truck and saw six other dogs and literally looked thrilled. She adapted within minutes and made friends with everyone. She played one-on-one and in groups. She seemed tireless until she was finally tired and conked out. She was deferential to the bigger older dogs but also stood up for herself. --seems to enjoy water. She splashed around in the kiddie pool and waded into the pond. --loves to chase squirrels and bark at them, which is common for the breed --is good with cats but will also chase them when in an excited state. It is more for fun than anything --walks well on a leash but does pull. Her previous owners said they were working with her offleash but it was a work in progress. She would probably do fine in a large space like the beach. --has had basic obedience, responded well to stay and sit and definitely knows her name --should be fine with children but we did not have the opportunity to test her. AS will all other Carolina Dogs we have sent north, we encourage fosters and potential adopters to understand the uniqueness of the breed. So I am attaching a small writeup that has been reviewed by the folks managing the Carolina Dog rescue website. In general, think of these dogs as smart, highly focused, problem solving border collies. With plenty of exercise, stimulation, and loving they are great pets, but the reason so many pop up in the 6-9 month stage is they were too much for unwary pet owners.
